ok...this is a little complicated. when there is a solar eclipse, only a certain section of the earth can see it because of the angle of light from the sun going around the moon. i cant remember the terminology, but if you look it up on the internet, you could probably find it.

Because if someone saw a total solar eclipse they would burn their eyeballs out (unless they were wearing protection, of course).
