Let him cut them. Straight across, and round the corners. If they get ingrown, file the top of them to make them real thin and flexible in the middle, and they'll flex out of the way and releive the pain.

Go to a podiatrist. He or she will teach you the proper way.

Reason being is that I thought I had been doing mine the right way (straight across and not long, but not short), and I keep getting ingrown toenails.

well if you have ingrown toenails like mine you can stuff some cotton under the nail and let it grow out then clip them straight across

clip them straight across and file the edges with the finer side of an emery board RIGHT after you get out of the shower. less work, more gain

Just soak them, it makes them softer by being wet. Then you can just cut them strait across with toe nail clippers.

don't cut them too short, you can get an ingrown toenail. they are nasty and they hurt. Cut straight across and file them so they are smooth. maybe paint them so they look cute too :)
