Why is my 1996 S-10 ticking with the speed of the motor.?

my truck started ticking yesterday and has been getting louder at a stedy pace. i replaced the plugs and it wasnt one of them not firing and the wires all seem to be arcing out on the block when you pull them off one by one while its running. any ideas would be appreciated . its not low on oil and i also just bought the truck 2 weeks ago. it has almost 70 K on the 2.2 liter motor. thanks.

Two things that come to mind: one relatively serious, the other far less so.

The less serious problem would be a worn fan belt whose frayed edges are slapping as they go around. So check the condition of the belt.

The other, which I would call a tapping rather than a ticking noise, is a bad valve or valve guide seal. A bent or damaged valve will not seat properly in the head each time it closes, and the sound of it striking the valve seat can make that noise.

If the ticking is constant, I would look to the valves.

Still one other source of ticking, not terribly loud, but noticable to some, is the metering action of your fuel injection system. But that should not get louder as time passes, which you indicated was one of your symptoms.
