Two things that come to mind: one relatively serious, the other far less so.
The less serious problem would be a worn fan belt whose frayed edges are slapping as they go around. So check the condition of the belt.
The other, which I would call a tapping rather than a ticking noise, is a bad valve or valve guide seal. A bent or damaged valve will not seat properly in the head each time it closes, and the sound of it striking the valve seat can make that noise.
Now the valve need not be bad necessarily for this to happen. It can be out of adjustment, if the valves on your vehicle are adjustable. If they are hydraulic valves, on the other hand, then one of your hydraulic lifters may be worn and leaking the oil that it requires to operate properly.
You did not say if the ticking goes away after you have been running the car for a few minutes, which would be typical of a failed lifter. As the car runs even a mildly leaking lifter will often fill up with oil enough to quiet it. After the car has sat for awhile, say overnight, the oil leaks back out and the lifter is dry and loud again until it fills back up.
If the ticking is constant, I would look to the valves.
Still one other source of ticking, not terribly loud, but noticable to some, is the metering action of your fuel injection system. But that should not get louder as time passes, which you indicated was one of your symptoms.

do not hear to sirbobby. What he would not comprehend is: a site visitors end is technically an arrest. once you signal the price ticket, you're being released. So close it sirbobby, because no, you at the instantaneous are not loose to flow when you're pulled over. It appears like what this guy did is a pretext end. The ideally suited court docket has ruled repeatedly that pretext stops are criminal. A pretext end really is; a cop has a suspicion you're doing some thing unlawful, yet not adequate suspicion to result a site visitors end, yet you've a brake undemanding out, so he stops you depending on the brake undemanding, yet would not really supply a s--- about the undemanding, he needs you for his suspicion. The ideally suited court docket has also ruled that that's carefully criminal for an officer to remove motive force and passengers from the vehicle for his and their protection on site visitors stops. If an officer has legally detained you, and has life like suspicion you're possessing a weapon, he can search for you for guns. There are another aspects which will lead an officer to hunt, that are completely criminal; time of day, ratio of suspects to officials, nearest conceal unit is distant, etc. this stuff ensue. officials have discretion on even if to provide tickets. i comprehend a large number of officer who make site visitors stops their complete shift yet merely difficulty a million-2 citations a week. You bumped right into a competent officer, who grow to be searching for some more thing effective than a site visitors quotation. in case you stay contained in the area, you're fortunate to have an officer like this who's out doing his pastime.

Check for a loose rocker arm or a broken valve spring. Also look for an exhaust leak near the head. That will sound like a ticking also.
