Whatever happened to separation of church and state?
The worst part is they don't even embrace the good aspects of Christianity, such as love thy neighbor and help those who cannot help themselves.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;"

It means pray to the devil for all I care, just don't teach religion in my kid's science class by legal mandate. It also means my tax dollars WILL NOT fund any religious program or the display of memorabilia via an act of Congress (spending bill, pork funding, whatever). My tax dollars will also not support advertising space for such things. Put up the biggest pentagram or cross you want on your own lawn, but not in my public courthouse that my tax dollars pay for.

As for prayer in schools, make it private, give the kids their own time if you wish, but mine are there to learn things like history, math, and science. I can establish their religion myself at home and in church. They aren't there to be ostracized for not partaking in some fundie ritual preaching a perverted kind of Christianity.

If you are against abortion, don't have one, but I guarantee 1 in every 3 women YOU PERSONALLY KNOW have had one or will have one whether it is safe and legal or not. Personally, lets not throw the baby out with the bathwater (ok, bad idiomatic expression). I'm pretty happy with my own birth control education and shameless use of such and I've never had the occaision to need an abortion for my partner.

Now imagine if the US could choose an "official religion", which sect of Christianity would it be? Would that mean that churches could be taxed to oblivion, or would my taxes support all churches? You start wanting religion added to government, you'll get a whole can of worms I promise you don't want.

Here's your "origin of separation of church and state".

To Kathy_A: Your values as a Christian, Jew, Muslim, or humanist carries with you definitely and should be a major and utmost factor in the ethical decisions YOU make in the course of your public service. You must, however, excercise restraint in your position of responsibility not to foist your religious views upon others. Saying you love Jesus and passing laws to make sure everyone knows it is quite different than acting in a way that shows you really understand what he did and what he taught.

Go read the Constitution of the United States. It's that wacky little document that our country was founded on, I'm sure you've heard of it.
If you can find the words, "Seperation of Church, and State" in the United States Constitution, I will pay you $1 million dollars.

How can you keep something that helps define who you are as a person...your values and morals out of politics? It's like asking, "Why can't they keep race out of politics...or sexual orientation...or gender...etc.? Can you envision anyone trying to separate those aspects of the human condition from politics? Religion is every bit as relevant as those other issues.

Separation of church and state doesn't mean that we must be mute about our religion. The only chatter about religion is coming from the left.

Maybe more of your co-religionists need to speak out on this issue. As long as most Christians fail to denounce the theocrats among them, then these theocrats (and the rest of us as well) will assume that you support their agenda.

True True True. But that's not the point. It's so messed up religion is
just a mask for power. And if you question the mind-control you're the "liberal" or whatnot.
