The only way to really reduce crime is through good education and elimination of poverty, if you had real superheros they'd only be a 'stop gap' solution and you'd be trusting one person to judge everyone, surely a human rights violation?

Why does everyone have to give such cheesy answers like "superheroes already exist" or " superheroes are a symbol of hope in a deteriorating city." Super heroes are in comicbooks and videogames. Heck yes we need them! What would we do without spidey and Batman. I mean we still love batwoman even though she's a lesbian. Superheroes aren't as complicated as people make them out to be.

If you think about it, there are superheroes in the world today, but we don't usually call them that. We call them police men, fire fighters, military men, moms and dads, and other "ordinary" people. Without these people protecting us, the world would be much much more dangerous than it ever was in Gotham City. And with all the real-life supervillans in the world, I'm glad I have these every-day superheroes to protect us. (Although it would be nice if Superman flew in every once in a while!)

No the world does not need superheros. If there where superheros they would just create villians . The world needs everyday heros like firemen and police officers that put there lives on the line to help people.

If it were possible for heroes to exist in this world - yes. Though, I think they would be in conflict with the worlds governments. For example: The superhero team AUTHORITY would definitely not be welcomed by the current U.S. governing body. A team like the Avengers, existing in our world, would probably be very similar to whats going on in the marvel comics series - CIVIL WAR. A team like the JLA wouldn't be trusted either. A vigilante like Batman would probably be labeled a *terrorist*. The only way a superhero team would be able to have relations with certain countries, would be for the countries to authorize the team under their control/command.

real superheroes do exist, but they're just ordinary people. i think we still need to keep the fictional superheroes as they give us something to believe in, that maybe one day the world will be a better place but only if we all try to make it that way

What we know as superheroes today was a concept invented by DC and Marvel during the Worl Wars in order to boost morale and support by citizens... It worked... Unfortunnately, these days it doesn't seem to make a diference...

They should exist since they could help with our needs (to stop crime, ect) but eventually (if they were to exist) they might 'go bad' and so we would need other superheroes to fight the evil one so maybe were off better with no superheroes (if it would be possible)

The world needs super heroes only if there exists super villains. We as a society should be more than capable of tackling everday crime, although we constantly struggle with solving those problems definitively.

America has her heroes.
Firefighters, cops, paramedics, nurses, doctors, state troopers, sheriff's deputies, National & Air Guard, the Coast Guard.
The men & women of the Armed Forces, fighting the good fight for truth, democracy, and liberty.
Those are the real superheroes to me.
