sorry, i cant help you much with burbank/glendale/pasadena but you might want to try yahiras on colorado.
but without a doubt the most romantic mexican restaurant is Frieda on beverly in beverly hills. good food and great ambiance.
you also cannot go wrong with la serranata de garibaldi. there are two locations that i know of...boyle heights and santa monica.
on olvera street, the choice for romantic mexican restaurant is la gondolaria. real cool.
i also like la huesteca in the mexico plaza in lynwood. i think they have a mariachi there during dinner. malverde next to la huesteca is getting a lot of press and attention too but i have yet to go there. you might want to try that place out. the pictures look great.
good question but if you really want to impress a woman, you cannot go wrong with frieda!!!
good luck and happy eats.

Okay, I confess I don't know Burbank or Glendale very well. But I can suggest Mijares in Pasadena off California Ave. and Pasadena Ave near the 210 Fwy. They have mariachis and good food. Then there's Sol Y Azul off Colorado Blvd. in Old Town Pasadena. It's good 'cause it's in the center of things. El Cholo (On Fair Oaks) is good, but not particularly romantic.
ADDENDUM: If you want to venture to Silverlake/Los Feliz area, I recommend La Casita del Campo, Alegria and Cha Cha Cha (though Cha Cha Cha is more cocina latina, not Mexican exactly)

Taco Bell or Del Taco
Del Taco has really good chili cheese fries and Taco Bell makes a mean Bean, Cheese and Rice Burrito! LOL

It's not in LA, but the most intimate, romantic mex place I've ever been to is Topolobampo, in Downtown Chicago. Great food, chill atmosphere... very awesome place.

Um romance with beans and spicey stuff? I think that's a big no my friend. But if it's just the setting you are after and not the after effect, I always liked Amigos I don't know if they are still in business.
