I knew for a very long time before I ever admitted it to anyone (7 years, easy). Senior year of high school I told my friends after being at a new school for a year. They were all quite supportive, and apparently there was a running bet on when I was going to come out. A couple months later I told my parents...just flat out told them. It was a fiasco for a few days, and then dad (the Southern Baptist Preacher, mind you) quickly reached a point of acceptance about a week later after some major thought. Mom took a good year to get comfortable and to accept things. Now I'm out to anyone who asks and have no problem bringing up my boyfriend should conversations go that way. The ultimate announcement will be a couple years from now when I get married.

Quietly, in a woods, by surprise, and fell madly in love...and it lasted for 16 years. And I told no body. I was married with kids at the time, had to come out about 4 years later. In retrospect, I did it as best as could be done given the circumstances. It is good today.

Well I knew by age 12 that I was into women...by age 13 I had told my best friends...at age 14 my mom found a love letter that I had written to my at-the-time GF, so I came out to my parents about it then...By age 16 I was telling everyone...Now at age 23, it seems like the whole world knows...haha

i wrote (long hand) a long (some 30 pages) soul searching, gutt wrenching letter to mom and dad. Up to that point, I had been a good -- keyboard playing, front pew sitting, choir singing, soloist singing, Bible College graduated, popular, best all around, voted most dedicated -- church boy.

After that point, I told people to their face, participated in marches, protests, speaker bureaus, wore t-shirts, blah blah blah with a vengeance.

Most people just found out. I have certain mannerisms that lead people to believe that i am not straight. i told a few people that i was sure would not hate me for it but eventually everyone just found out.

In the car. My mom was driving and she almost killed us. I do not recommend this approach.

I made an early decision to tell the truth to anyone brave enough to ask. Otherwise, my sex life is not their business.
