I'm a new owner of a teddy bear hamster so I don't know much other than what I've read from websites and such but none seem to answer this question. I change his water everyday but he doesn't seem to be drinking any. Its a little different from the rest of the water bottles I've seen so maybe he's unfamiliar with it? I'm not sure, but does anyone know of anything I can do or how I can tell if he's getting enough water?

Hamsters are small and don't drink much. Unfortunately, they're also nocturnal so you can't really sit up all night to watch if he drinks. I'd give him a grape or a slice of carrot so he can get some moisture from his food and try to catch him drinking. Maybe try a different water bottle or a dish. I have a mouse who prefers to drink from a dish, but my rat will just sit in it if I give him one so he drinks from a bottle. Very small critters dehydrate quickly. But hamsters don't need to drink as much water as say, a rat.

My hamster had the same problem! The easiest way is to put some pedialyte or some powdered electrolytes in a very small syringe and put about 2 CC's into his cheek a day. Also, you might want to try getting a new water bottle that is similar to the one in the pet store you got him in.

Well you need to make sure his teeth are filed down,or else he won't be able to eat or drink. And hamsters don't drink that much water a day. He might be drinking his water but since you change his water every day, you might not notice it.

try giving him pedialyte (until he is hydrated), then pick him up and show him where the water bottle is, and maybe put a lil but of 100% juice (or pedialyte) in the water bottle so he will be encouraged to drink this yummy tasting liquid! good luck!!

If he won't drink out of anything, put water in a dropper, then open animal's mouth, then drop water in.

Hope this helps you.

try an eye dropper and squeeze a little in his mouth. slowly. after doing this for a few days he might get the idea...just a guess. it should work though. remember go slowly so you don't scare it.
