Her and I have been through 3-4 different episodes of having all the pregnancy signs, and think she is pregnant. Symptoms have included sudden appitite change, sudden change in foods liked/disliked, sharp pains in stomach (where she says are her ovaries), mood swings extreme when no period, constant water intake and urination. We have also gotten entimate with eachother during her period (i know, not every couple does this b/c of fear of blood) and occassionally would have sex at beginning of period. Some reason or another, when this happens, her period ends 2-3 days early, and a week later those symptoms show up, as if she's pregnant. 3 months ago, we took 3 home test in 6 days, 1st 2 were negative, 3rd positive. a day or so later, Dr office test said negative, and continued to be negative. I'm wondering if tobacco could be effecting her chances, she does smoke, though against my wishes. I let her, i don't want to control her, but she knows I'd like her to stop. Any opinions, please.

Pregnancy tests are almost *never* positive if a woman isn't pregnant. It sounds like she is having repeated early miscarriages. This is not uncommon, although it is very frustrating.

Smoking can *definitely* cause reduced fertility. It can specifically cause miscarriages. If she really wants a baby, she may have to stop smoking.

I would strongly suggest you try charting fertility signs; that will help you and her determine what is going on. Please read _Taking Charge of Your Fertility_ by Toni Weschler. It has detailed information that will help.

I am gong to venture a guess and say the "symptoms" are because she wants to be pregnant not because she is. You don't usually have all those symptoms in the first month. Most women cannot tell they are pregnant within the first 4-6 weeks. I am saying most not all .. lol. My method of success has been wait 12 days after the first day of my period and have sex every other day. The mans sperm count has time enough to build all the way up and the sperm can live within the woman for 72 hours so it's not like you are missing a chance on the day you don't. Most women and a 28 day cycle will ovulate on the 14 and can be fertile anywhere from the 12-17th day. Good luck. If you still feel she could be pregnant get a different brand pregnancy test (well known) and take the test again, they are usually pretty accurate. Best if you wait until the first day of her missed period. Otherwise it is only accurate for 93% of woman.

BTW .. smoking can reduce the chance and does she really want to have to wait until she is pregnant to quit smoking cold turkey because then it could be REALLY bad.

When the doctor tested your wife did they do an ultrasound? They usually they don't get the results right away and assume you are pregnant when the home test says you are so they do an ultrasound.

This is my standard answer......... go get a book called Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler. It will help you understand your body and all the myths about it. It will help you time when you are ovulating and the best times to conceive. My Doctor recommended it to me and after 1 year of trying I got the book. It worked the very next month. It turns out that my timing was wrong due to mis-information. I hope it helps you, too! It's not only about getting pregnant. It's about knowing your body and knowing when you are fertile or not. You can pick and choose what you do with your info. Good luck and don't listen the all the myths!

Smoking can reduce your chances of conceiving. It is impossible to have a false positve on a preg. test. They are testing for a hormone that is only in your body if you are prego. In Feb. I had what is called a chemical pregnancy. I had 3 positive tests one negative and the positive lines were very faint. Later that night I started my period. They are very common. But the on the positive side it lets you know that you are both fertile! If she isn't already have her go to web md sign up and start keeping an ovulation calender. It is so easy to use and to read. Best of luck to you.

You both need to relax. For some unknown reason when a man and a women keep trying to have a baby the harder they try the harder it is to get pregnant. Relax and stop trying for a while. Then start up again but help yourself along.

When you and your wife have sex have her lay in bed for about 20 minutes with her hips elevated. That helps the sperm get down to the utereus.

Freinds of mine a number of years ago, tried and tried and tried to have a baby. For 5 years. They finally gave up trying. So they decided to adopt. Wouldn't you know the minute the proceedings for adoption had started, they got pregnant.

It is all about stress and managing it.

To get pregnant you must have sex on a day that your eggs are being released.

After the 3rd day from the day that menses started put a thermometer into your mouth and check your body temperature every morning before you start turning in bed. The best time is at about 4 a.m. Maintain a chart. You will find that on one day the body temperature drops from 1/2 degree to one degree. This is the day that your eggs are being released. If you want to get pregnant this is the day that you must have sex.

After having sex you must stay in bed for about 30 mins with your knees bent up so that the sperms will not pour out - to enable them to travel up.

Get your husband to save his sperms in the testacles for at least 5 days before sex to enable them to mature well to do their job

typically a woman can conceive approximately 14 days after the first day of her period. those are the days you should be aiming for conception. there is always the chance your wife has conceived and miscarried within the first few days but i would bet most of her symptoms are in her mind because she wants to be pregnant so much. there are alot of women in this world who have conceived amd been smokers- smoking affects the birthweight of the baby so she'll wanna stop while she's pregnant BUT i have never heard of it affecting her fertility
