If it is 10% of your quarter grade, then the other things are worth 90%. You find the average of the 90% and multiply it by .9. Then you take the item that is 10% and mulitply it by .1. Add the two answers together to get your quarter average.
If it is out of 100 points, then the 10% is worth 10 points.

Ten percent is the same thing as ten parts in one hundred.
Thus, if you had an exam worth 100 points, 10% of that would be 10 points.
If your teacher has said that a certain quiz is worth 10% of your grade for the quarter, that means that one-tenth of your total grade is made up of the score from that quiz. The actual number of points depends on how many he/she uses in calculating the grade for a quarter -- if it's on a 500 point scale, then the quiz would be worth one tenth of that, or 50 points. One a 1000 point scale, it would be 100 points.
My kids typically get the class scoring as something like:
10% Class participation
10% Homework
25% Quizzes (2)
30% Final Exam
Hope that helps.

Well, it depends how many points your grade is out of. If your total grade is out of 100points, then 10% means that it counts for 10 points toward your grade.

Multiply whatever is 10% of your grade by .1 and that is how many points it will add to your final grade.
