There are a number of tests. Chemical tests will sort out some of the fakes -- real gold doesn't react to acids. But easier (and safer) is that real gold is malleable and most fakes are not. Are you talking about gold in its natural state or in a manufactured state, such as a ring or a pin? If it is real gold it will have the karat mark on it (which tells you what percentage of gold it actually is). Best way to tell is take it to a reputable jeweller.

Real gold is very soft. It also has a specific ring to it when dropped on a table. Fake is usually made from copper or zink then plated. It will be hard and sound more tinny when dropped

I have seen jewellers rub the gold on a black stone to see the color of the scratch it leaves on the stone and compare it to known specimens.

The 14K , 18K marks can be faked --means nothing.

i think after a while of having it on your finger ( ring ) it has a greenish mark. but if you want to know faster, if it is more expensive or valuable it is real. like the fake cheap jewelery you find at garage sales or in fending machines is fake.

I THINK 50%

do what pirates do. bite it. If it bends under the bite and a tooth mark is left and the object remains gold in colour, it gold. If the object leaves an impression on your tooth or paint flakes off, it not gold.

Usually if its jewelery somewhere on it it will say like 14k or 10k something like that. check it out. Fake gold like rings and stuff will make your skin green
