Just because it's legal doesn't mean everyone in the country will all of a sudden start using it...Alcohol's legal and there are tons of people who don't drink. And the ones that do, definitely don't drink on the job so how can one say that people will come to work stoned. I think that's an irrational assumption.

Because even if they legalize it, there will still be people selling it illegally. There is no way to properly regulate it. Plus, can you imagine if pot were legal? You would go to work every day and at least 75% of your coworkers would be high and just want to sit vegetatively and eat nachos rather than do their work, leaving the non pot smokers to do their work for them. Would you want to be on a highway with other drivers that were high? Stuck behind someone going 30 in a 55 when you're already running late for work? What if you were scheduled for open heart surgery and your surgeon takes a nice bong hit before coming into the ER? There is no way to regulate the use of pot or the sale of pot. Legalizing it will not make things any better than they are now, so why do it? Plus enough people already smoke the stuff, legalizing it will only encourage others to pick up the habit.

It has been for medical use.
Also, the FDA would need to be able to trace all the chemicals, where they go in the body, what they effect, etc.
The Gov can't just legalize it. Then every other drug would demand equal treatment, then you'd never know if anything was safe to consume.

Causes cancer even faster than cigarettes. I do think they could tax it really heavy though and then take the proceeds from the taxation to fund more cancer research. Knowing the feds, they'd probably just piss it away on social programs, as usual.

Because alcohol does a great job of getting 'necks pissed of and going to war. Whereas, marijuana would mellow them and we'd all turn into a bunch of smelly hippies.

Because there are already too many legal controlling substances. In short too much competition our "leaders" in congress want to be the lone controlling substance.

Can you think of a single politician that would dare to support that? Even though they've all done it. With exception of Bush, of course. He's more of a blow fan.
