its always best to back your hard drive when you are installing new items or downloading new patches.

with things like pictures or mp3's - I burn them straight to ask a disc anyway, saves space and gives you a good back-up.

you could also download some of your stuff to a memory stick as well.

The question to ask is how important the information you hold on your drive is, if its very important then back it up more often than if its not.

and prey you don't get the blue screen of Death.....aarrrgggh.

How often do you make changes? You need to back up whenever you have added or changed something important on your PC. Programs can always be reinstalled, so they may not count as a critical change. But any time you create or change important data files (documents, bank information, songs, pictures, etc.) you should back them up.

If you are careful to always but data files into a folder, or one set of folders, you normally only have to back up that set of folders (your music pictures, documents, etc) not everything.

depends how important it is like it it a business then every day it old stuff just once and then do it again if you change things but computers are great these days they will remember nearly all the work in word if i crashes i would keep important documents on your email it free space and companies like hotmail will not lose you work (hopefully)

I back up mine every couple of months. However, all of my important docs I put on an external drive too.
