By far, the lyrics are what makes a musician GREAT. Any musician that relies just on attitude alone, is doing so, because they have no real talent. A true musician, knows meaning and importance of great lyrics. Great lyrics make a song timeless, not attitude. But if a musician can combine both equally, even better.

Neither really...it's their musicianship combined with charisma and a good composition (lyrics or not). Lyrics aren't near as important as the way a song makes you feel. Examples: Amazing Grace on bagpipes (no lyrics), Wild Thing (minimal lyrics). There are the great songs with lots of lyrics like those of Bob Dylan or Rob Thomas, but in both cases I think the unique voice of the singer along with their 'delivery' factored in in a big way. I don't think I've ever purchased a song based on lyrics alone.

A musician is more memorable because of his musicianship, hopefully. A lyricist would hopefully be remembered for his lyrics.
Attitude merely hooks the band up with their target demographic faster.

obviously, a musician's music (lyrics included) would be the most important, unless it's a clown. then of course, it'd be the attitude that matters the most. these days we've got plenty of those: clowns disguised as musicians.
