Well, about a third of that would be taken out in taxes so after that...
Pay off student loans
Give money to various members of my family (and friends)
Buy reliable transportation
Invest in some green companies as an angel investor
Give some to public tv and various virial reseach organizations
Buy my own home
Travel some, visiting friends from all over the world
Books!
Set up a scholarship
Create my own not-for-profit organization...
Depends on how much I won, I guess. But I don't buy lottery tickets so it's pretty much a moot point.

I'd pay off all my bills and buy an awesome house. I wouldn't need a mansion or anything...just a nice house with a big kitchen, a big backyard and a pool. It would be located somewhere nice too. I would get some nice furnature and clothes, put a good amount away for college, and then give a bunch to charity.

If I became a lottery winner, I would buy
- A Car , a Mansion, a summer house in Italy and Israel.
- Make a special school that comtains everything! ( pool, tennis court, basketball court, baseball court, football filed, soccer field, and much more)
- Of course donate to Cancer Foundations, and Aids Foundation!
- I would help stop Global Warming and pollution

I'd pay off my house and all of my immediate families homes, buy new cars for those family members that need or want one (Within reason obviously). Then I would buy a place up in the mountains near ski resorts but still off the beaten path a bit.
Invest the rest and live off interest.

I would help some families and send a few kids to college and buy a ton of land all over the country. Buy some new cars and a few houses and make some movies. Travel too.

Depends on the jackpot I guess. Lets assume its just 1 million dollars. You pretty much lose 40 percent to federal and state taxes up front if you take it in a lump sum (I used to sell lottery at my second job) so that leaves you with 600K. Out of that I would pay off my mortgage, wipe out debt for my & my husbands retired parents and take a really nice vacation.

I would buy every spare inch of land in the county I live in. Donate some back to the county for a park, and then sit on the rest.
Of course I would help my family and give some to a few good causes.

You're idea is a good one. We've talked about it like everyone else does and I would help people too. We've gone through a lot ourselves and I know how stressful it is. To make other people happy would make me feel good. I don't know about the travel part though - cuz I have kids, a granddaughter (6 mos) and another on the way. I don't think I could leave them. No, I can't

I too have some thoughts on curing some of society's ills, probably be broke from it, so I would buy a little house near the ocean, near the woods, and have a nice garden. Also of course wanna set my kids up for university, stuff like that.
