I had my son done at 12 days old. Give him baby tylenol about an hour before you go. Be prepared that the first time he pee's after he will cry out, due to the fact that it stings. There's really nothing to it...my son came through it with flying colours. Just relax.

Medically, the reasons for and against circumcision even out, so with all things being equal, there's probably no reason to do it.

If your reasons are cultural, as I suspect form the timing they are, there can be compelling reasons.

A child need not be circumcised to participate in a temple or mosque, but if he chooses to live a devout or orthodox lifestyle, he may be required to have the procedure at a later date, when it would be more complicated and certainly more traumatizing.

Please ignore words like "barbaric." They display a lack of understanding and cultural sensitivity.

Why put your innocent son through such a barbaric procedure?
I hope you realize your mistake that first night when you go to change his diaper and have to change the gauze around his stripped, bleeding little pee-pee and he just looks at you and cries. You should have done this at the hospital or not at all. I have been though this with my 1st and it was a terrible experience. I wish I go could back and change my decision. Would you mutilate your daughter if it was a practice that was recommended by a doctor??? They were born that way for a reason, leave it be. I am sorry for offending anyone by using the term barbaric, if it is not a cultural or religious rite then yes it is unnecessary and painful and should not be done.

Give him tylenol about a 1/2 hour before you go in. Be prepared for when he screams and just be ready to comfort him when they're done. It looks really brutal because they strap the baby to a board thing, but it's so the baby doesn't move and get injured during the process. Make sure you follow the advice of the doctor on how to do after-care and plenty of TLC for a few days. Good luck!

My son was done at 3 days old. He had not one problem with the whole thing. He never even cried. He was surprised when the cold tool touched him, but that was it. He didnt even get an infection. The doctors will explain to you in depth on how to clean the area and how to take care of it. Just dont worry about it, it will heal the way it should.

Have you made sure and done all your research on both pros and cons? A lot of people make this decision just because daddy is like this or they just don't know you don't need it done. It is not medically necessary. It is becoming more and more common to leave the penis intact. They were born that way after all. Why not wait and let him decide how he wants his body when he is old enough to make an informed decision?

Gosh it's been long since i've had a baby, but I remember you had to put vaseline on the tip before you diapered him to keep the material of the diaper sticking to the skin and causing oozing when you pull the diaper off.
He's gonna be sore. You have to be brave. He will cry. Expect that.
Ask the doctor about the care of it. maybe there is something different they do now a days.
good luck!

My son was the same way, he was born premature. So we had to wait. I had stocked up on Vaseline and bandages. I probably went over the time limit on the healing time but gosh I didn't want his "stuff" to be damaged. too precautious but you never know. Bring tissues for yourself cuz your gonna hear him scream. and have baby Tylenol in the house.

good lord, I thought that was a thing of the past, at least it is where I come from! There is no need to do this unless there were some problem and your doctor would know that.
