Is it like in the USA where they are fighting hard for recognition as a distinct group and their right to marry? Are there gay marriages in European countries?

Europe is (in many places) much more open. Actual marriages exist (as well as those pesky "civil unions") and for a list of them just go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Same-sex_marriage

Gay marriages are legal in the majority of European countries. They don't see it as a problem and their society is doing better than ours. There is less murder and less teen pregnancy.
