These amendments have no relevance in the real world. They can't even gain approval in a Republican controlled legislature.
We have people dying in a senseless war, people dying because they can't afford medicine or have any medical coverage. We have lobbyists literally buying votes in Congress.
When was the last time you even saw someone actually burn an American flag in this country? What harm would it do if people actually did still burn flags?
Dignity in Marraige? Heterosexuals like Britney Spears and wife beaters everywhere are doing a good enough job destroying any dignity in marriage.

What a lot of people don't realize is that 8 years ago, in 2000, when gay marriage was first becoming a big thing, the voters in California passed a law that defined marriage as between a man and a woman, with 61% of the voters in favor of it. Then the Supreme court just came out and did, which basically said that that Proposition 22 was unconstitutional. The proposition said nothing about gay marriage, which is why the supreme court was able to shoot it down. The judges created a law, which is something they are not supposed to do, and many people don't even realize they have done it. What the voters in Cali now want, and that will be on the ballot in November, is a Constitutional amendment, that will say "only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California." It already has 1.1 million signatures, which is many, many more than is needed, so it WILL be on the ballot come November, and polls show that it will most likely pass. A new amendment will overrule the judges decision, who were out of line in doing this. The State Supreme court went out of their power by doing this, and the 3 judges who voted against this recent ruling, all did so because they deemed it an inappropriate use of judicial power. It is the voters job to make and pass laws, according to the Constitution, not the judges.

"Why do Republicans keep wasting Congress time with Amendments to ban gay marriage or flag burning?"

One- gay marriage is unnatural.

"When was the last time you even saw someone actually burn an American flag in this country? What harm would it do if people actually did still burn flags?"

It would probably do no harm but it is still disrespectful. But of course respect doesn't matter to dems.

"We have people dying in a senseless war"
Since when is taking out an evil dictator, that killed unmercifully, a senseless thing to do? Have you seen a SANE ( i stress that because some dems seem to think terrorist are sane) Iraqi upset that they are free from the rule of a madman?

Flag burning - I doubt that you have ever lived in the south or in an area in which flag burning is used as a sign of disrespect to the goverment. If you have you will understand how offensive that action can and is to people (like myself) who support America. (Yes, I would like to see a ban on flag burning). I do not see it as a waste of time or an useless act.

Marraige- The issue is about generating a LEGAL defination of marraige. It is clear in America today that the letter of the law (aka what is actually written) is followed versus the spirit or intention of the law. It is sad that we as a society has reached the point there needs to a written out defination of marraige. However it would be an even bigger tragady when a marraige between a man and woman could ever be considered illegal. (Society is not there...yet.) The purpose of the bill was to develop a legal, written defination of marriage to safe gaurd marriage.

Burning the flag really is a non issue in that you don't do it. There a certain rules for handling the flag but more than anything it's a symbol for your country and to burn it is the highest level of disrespect.

Debating gay marriage. I personally don't really care if they ban it or not. I can live with a civil union for gay couples imparting the civil rights and privelages that come with it but actual marriage by a priest or whatever comes down solely to the discretion of that religious organization. Not debating it however is apathy. It's a very significant step in the history of the country, just shrugging your shoulders and not discussing it just doesn't cut it.

Whoa there wyldfyr boy... I usually don't answer the political questions because as a Conservative, I can't even begin to make my mind use the same thought process that liberals use. However, considering I am so happy while mourning the loss of al- Zarqwai (one of your freedom fighters, I presume) I'll tackle this one.
Gay Marriage:
I won't even use the obvious Bible backup here. Look, there are laws/ cutoffs/ mandates about all sorts of things. So let's say we give in to the liberals idea that gay marriage is okay, well... not okay, but gosh darn it, we just don't want to offend another group of people. It's their civil liberty and all. So, whoooo-hooooo... gay marriage is legal. BUUUUUUTTTTT.... wait a minute, now comes this group of perverts who say their civil liberties are being violated because it is against the law for them to have sex with kids who are 10 years old. Then someone else decides he wants to begin having a sexual relationship with his milking cow. And if we say no to these people, well, they can say, "Hey, what about the gays. Now we are being discriminated against. We want what's fair. Hey, if it makes us happy..."
That may be an exxageration, however decades ago, people may have said the same thing about the possibility of gay marriage.
Burning the flag:
Okay son, now we have a problem here. What harm would it do if people ...burn flags. I tell you what pal... I will give you directions directly to my front door. I will pay for your airline ticket, gasoline for a rental car, a flag, and a lighter. Come burn that flag in front of me and I will show you "what harm" would come out of someone burning an American flag. Afterward, I will then drive you to a VFW Hall (that stands for Veterans of Foriegn Wars) and have you do the same thing in front of a group of veterans.
It is people such as you who are becoming the ruination of this country. You and your liberal "ideas" of entitlements and what not are what will ultimately destroy this precious country from within.
In closing, I am not kidding about paying your way here. Please take me up on my offer. I'm sure you won't as I have a feeling you are like Hillary Clinton in that you both have no balls... no wait, she does, it's Bill who doesn't!!!
Rick

If I had a flag, besides the one inverted on my wall, next to the Confederate, I'd fire it up in a sec. Disrespect is the only thing I got for this "country" of "ours". And I think we oughta set off a little space in middle of nowhere to ship all the *******. But as far as congress goes, they shouldnt even give that sh*t a glance, we got way more problems than queers gettin hitched and somebody burning a piece of GD fabric. They need to work on the hardest task that will ever be, pulling their head out of their own and all the rich folks asses

The Defense of Marriage and Flag Burning are two importatant issues to the majority of social conservatives..(of which I am one)

There are states that have already passed legislation that states..Marriage is defined as being between a man and a woman; the prob is that the high courts..have tried to over-rule the states, therefore the need for a constitutional amendment..(that way its part of the constitution..which the judiciary could not over-rule.)

Our flag is a symbol of freedom and respect for all those who have given their lives in defense of our freedoms..and we should not allow the flag nor the memory of those who have died in defense of the flag..be disrepected.

OK some people say it's not a chose to be gay..that must mean they are born that way...which also means it's a Genetic defect (like being retarded).
So if you define their condition like that! Then they should be looking for a cure and not some way to exploit their condition.
As for flag burning what statement are they making anyway.
That it's not firer proof?
We should just arrest these people and say nothing. when they ask: Why am I in jail? Say: you burned our flag! that's it nothing else has to be said.

First off, I agree about the flag burning thing... that's incredibly disrespectful and I think you are scum if you do it... but I would stand by you to uphold your RIGHT to burn that flag (even though I still think you would be a bottom feeding scum sucking toad for doing it).

So now just hold on just one minute... I'm not meaning to sound political here, but you say that Republicans tie up congress with useless legislation?!?!?! Let's look at the bill submitted by the Honorable Senator from California, Dianne Feinstein (one of the main Democratic senators, surely she wouldn't tie up congress):
S.RES.12 : A resolution commending the University of Southern California Trojans football team for winning the 2004 Bowl Championship Series national championship game.
S.RES.51 : A resolution recognizing the importance of the writings of Dashiell Hammett to American literature and culture on the 75th anniversary of the first publication of "The Maltese Falcon".
S.867 : A bill to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 8200 South Vermont Avenue in Los Angeles, California, as the "Sergeant First Class John Marshall Post Office Building".
S.1206 : A bill to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 4960 West Washington Boulevard in Las Angeles, California, as the "Ray Charles Post Office Building".
S.1069 : A bill to suspend temporarily the duty on certain cases or containers for toys;
S.1070 : A bill to suspend temporarily the duty on certain cases for toys;
S.1071 : A bill to extend the temporary suspension of duty on certain bags for toys;
S.1072 : A bill to extend the temporary suspension of duty on cases for certain children's products;
S.1073 : A bill to extend the temporary suspension of duty on certain children's products.

I don't give a crap about the duty on toys... who cares if I have to pay $2.19 instead of $1.99? Let's get to some real issues and not tie up congress with anymore useless bills. Be them Republican or Democrat.
