Who says it wrong to bring up slavery by anyone? Blacks tend to use it as an excuse for historical problems.

Sir, you don’t know enough about slavery. I am a full supporter of you learning, for your own benefit. First of all, not all slaves were black, and not all slave owners were white. That is the number one reason you need a history lesson. Also, not all slaves were beaten. Some slaves were captured by Europeans, but vast majority of slaves were sold by their fellow man. I would like to know exactly where you get your facts from, because you are seriously mistaken. I would like for you to tell me how the modern black man, woman and child are effected by slavery. The Ku Klux Klan does still exist, as do Black Power organizations, such as the Black Panthers. I agree that it would serve citizens to know more about the truths of slavery. I do not know where you received your credentials, but you are sadly mistaken on many grounds that you stand on. I would also like to know your grounds for basing the statement that if blacks knew more about slavery there would be less crime. With all due respect, you can not spell, nor do you have proper subject verb agreement, or any grammatical education, whatsoever. It is my opinion that you are ignorant, uneducated, and misinformed. Once again, I invite you to challenge me to a history lesson, and I will state again that I know more about black history and African American history than you ever will, so message me, if you will.

The problem does not lie in the fact that black people talk about slvery its when they use it to try to get soemthing out fo someone. It is a hrrible thing that happened, but the black slaves were not the only people that have gone thorugh horrible things.
My deal is that there were some great black leaders that really did alot fighting for equal rights, but now all of that hard work doesnt mean what it did as now "some" blacks dont want to take advatange of the opportunities that we all have. Such as repirations? Affirmative Action? I dont blame slavery completely on the Africans or the Whites.

Wow, are you screwed in the head.
Who said it's wrong for blacks to bring up slavery? It's wrong if you're going to use it as the be-all and end-all excuse for the ills that face the African-American community today, but to bring it up as a fact, there's no problem.
And what whites are teaching kids that slavery was all the fault of Africans? There's more than enough information out there about slavery for people to learn; unfortunately, there are a lot of misconceptions out there as well as to its effects, both to those who were enslaved and to the nation as a whole as a result of slavery.
Why does the KKK still exist? Because some people are morons, on both sides.
And I don't believe that if blacks knew more about slavery, crime would decrease.

Maybe in some minds understanding the times of slavery may calm the thoughts of some blacks, but may irrate others. Slavery is not like nowadays getting paid minimum wage. The reason people get paid is separate from slavery. There is no comparison to slavery unless it is here. There is something else that many know about but don't really care about which is working for less than minimum wage, no breaks, no restroom, extra long hours, around chemicals and hard workers. This is called agriculture workers all around the US. I do believe what needs to be in history books and taught in history class is the truth about how the natives were taken for their land, and claim there own. I don't think the natives asked them for legal documentation when they landed on Plymouth Rock! Believe me they teach what they want our children to believe! Keep teaching your kids the facts at home.

If it's brought up simply as an excuse then it would be inappropriate. They themselves were not enslaved but their ancestors were. Like the old proverb states, you can't know where you're going if you don't know where you've been. Racism will exist forever. Sucks to say that being a minority but it will endure regardless of what is said or done. Slavery is just another dark chapter in the history of the world and deserves to be discussed not only at black colleges or in small social groups but at every level of education and institution. If the schools were to truly discuss slavery, it's consequences, it's results and why it happened then I think the mentality of some will change. Some will not. Racism is immune to common sense and knowledge. Those who choose not to learn or educate themselves are doomed to repeat the failures of their own.

Where are you hearing that it is wrong for anyone yo bring up slavery? It is an important part of history and especially an important part of Black ethnic and cultural history. If we bury the past it is sure to return in the future. Not all whites believe or teach that slavery was the fault of the Africans. It is wrong to stereotype any race by making general statements like that. There are extremists and crazies in all races, We should not base our feelings of any group as a whole by the actions of a few.

i think everyone knows a great deal about slavery, most people can tell you more facts about slavery than they can about the war of 1812, the first world war or other historical events
im not sure that knowing the intricacies of slavery is going to help anyone get over anything or help anyone in any real way, the only reason i can think of that one would need to understand it is if one were writing a historical tome
if you want to learn more about slavery, there are many fine books on the subject and no on is stopping you
the black race as a people, would do better to ignore the past and concentrate on their future, black leaders are not serving the black people
a better life, economic improvement, crime reduction within the black community are all fixable problems, but their solutions do not lie in blaming white folks for problems that occurred long ago, they lie in the individuals who make up the black community
both booker t. washington and martin luther king argued the same points that i am
the modern black leaders have abandoned this message in favor of keepign political power by polarizing black society against white society

I feel differently then you do on the issue....
They say that if you dont teach history then it will repeat itself. Personally, I think that in fact by teaching it, they're creating a way for it to repeat itself.
My parents are not racist and I had never even heard the "N" word til I was in my fisrt history class. My parents told me that you cant judge people because they are different then you rather that be color or handicaped. Most of the kids I went to school with had never really heard or knew much about the "slave" era. Ofcourse, there was a few kids that their parents had taught them differently but the other kids made their own decision after they went through history class. In fact, I lost a friend due to history class. His parents raised him they way mine raised me. He was black and I'm white. After our 9th grade history class he flipped out on me for what me and "my" people did to his ancestors. I have nothing to do with what happened back then, and neither did he. BUt all of a sudden he was a victim. Not me, my parents, nor my grandparents had anything to do with slavery. Yet I lose a friendship of 4 years because he learned what had happened years and years ago.
So, I personally think that some things in history should be left at that. "History" Leave it there and dont bring it to our young kids attention. People should be judged on their character not by their skin. By teaching about the problems that had happened years and years ago I feel they are in a round-about way trying to teach kids to be racist against eachother.
There is nothing that we can do today that will change what happened yesterday. We're always taught to look forward and reach for the stars, but for some reason they keep telling our youth about the all the bad things that happened in the past. I'm sure everyone has heard that time heals all wounds. Which in this case I would say that would work if it wasn't being taught to our young kids.
I'm sure that the entire slave era upsets many people because reguardless of how it happened.... It happened. There's tons of things in this world that should NOT have happened, but they did. There isn't anything that anyone can do to change that fact. I also try to stress the fact that most people today, (though racism is still here), had nothing to do with slavery when it was here. I'm sorry for the way people acted in the past. But the fact is, none of today's people had any control in that..
Since I have moved to this town I have noticed that it seems like there's more racist people but from diiferent cultures. Everyone these days are "racist" against everyone that's not like them. It's sad, but I see it every day....
I cant remember the guys name, but I do remember what happened so.... I will repeat what he said while he was being beat.
CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG!!!!! Life would be so much better for you, me, and everyone else in the world. However, I doubt that day will ever come.... :(

Slavery should be discussed. People who do not know history are likely to repeat it. It is a way to learn from past mistakes. For decades black people have been given many opportunities to better themselves through special policies in the work place and education. If they do not want to better themselves even with incentives offered to them, then I have no answer to that. There is no reason anyone in this country not be able to make the most of their lives, whether black, female, or anything else.
The only thing that gets me is when people use things that happened to their ancestors as excuses for not being able to succeed today. Learn from the past mistakes, but make a better future for yourselves and your children
