First off
No Pity dates, or anything else for that matter.
Try to tell him nicely that you just want to e friends, if that doesn't work than perhaps you should tell him you only went to the prom because he was a loser and you felt bad for him.
That's pretty harsh but how bad do you want to get rid of him?!
I try the nice approach first but seems I am too nice and end up having to be vicious with them in the end. Honestly I try to just ditch them and ignore them, works alot of the time but no-where near always

let him know that the only reason you went to prom with him is because you think hes a cool person and a very good friend(with emphasis on friend) but you do not consider him any more than that right now. Tell him you are young and you wouldnt want to hurt his feeling by him seeing you out w/ some one else. you dont want to be serious with one specific person right now.

If you have 3 way calling always have someone of the opposite sex on the phone too. That way it will not be personal.
If they don't get the message, use the direct approch and tell them no.
If that doesn't work use the courts and make yourself ugly.
Gaining weight and not showering also helps.

It won't get easier for either of you if you aren't honest. He'll try harder and you'll become more uncomfortable. Explain to him that while you had a nice time at prom, you don't feel about him the way he feels about you, and it would be better if he could give you space.

The answer that people hate the most is, "let's be friends." That should work. Hopefully you didn't lead him on at prom or give him some sort of false hope.

Ah, so you led him on and are now surprised that he has an interest in you....nice.
Hopefully the young man will find someone who deserves him. Try being honest with him for a change.
