It all depends on what kind of email system we are talking about. One thing to keep in mind is that if you choose to accept your emails in a text format and not in an HTML format some ISP will block the link out of the text formatted email. I am mainly talking about pop3 systems usually using outlook. Changing your settings to recive emails as HTML might solve the problem. Also talking with the email supplier tech supprt sometimes does as well.

until you figure it out try right clicking the link and click open in new browser window.

another possibility you should only use as a last resort is hitting the tab key til it highlights the link and then press enter to open it. it's better than nothing.
