You have three options in Y! answers for displaying images. you can:

1. choose no picture
2. display your Yahoo! 360 profile picture
3. display your avatar

So, to put in a custom image, you will need to put an image in your profile for 360, but it will also be displayed there.

To change between the options above, you can go to your Y! answers profile edit page: http://answers.yahoo.com/my/my_edit

If you go to your answers profile: http://answers.yahoo.com/my/my there should be a link to your own 360 page and you can add your picture from there.
