Any volunteer work will look good on his college application. But for it to help him stay focused in school, it helps to have him find something he loves doing where he can interact with people who are passionate about a particular field and who can serve as role models for him. Certainly churches are great for finding volunteer opportunities, but also check with your son's high school.

It already sounds as though your son is very focused and doing quite well. Congratulations!
