Yahoo! is from the U.S., so it is widely used by Americans in the United States. So this is my problem ........... Football is not soccer. Football is the sport where 4 quaters is used, NOT 2 halfs, where the game clock ACTUALLY matters. My point is that these idiots who think football is soccer just don't get it. When someone says football, they don't mean a sport where a round ball is used, they mean a sport that has Multi-Billionare owners and Multi-Millionare players. This "soccer" sport is not popular in US for a reason, football (as in the NFL, which is worth 965 billion dollars in the US, by the way) is,so if you agree with me, thank you.

Didn't know you could actually put a dollar figure worth on the NFL. A paper figure yes.
There is no doubt that the NFL blows away soccer in the US.
But, ask people in other parts of the world what they think.

First let me say I'm big NFL fan. Love the Skins and Broncos. Yes, in the US, NFL is the sport that rules. However, football (soccer to you) is the sport that is played mainly with the feet. In the American Football, the only players that use their feet are the players who get paid the least, Kickers and Punters. May I add that some of these guys are......soccer players!
I'm not going to say that soccer will ever challenge the NFL in the US. However, I will say that the NFL will never compete against soccer in the rest of the world. The superbowl doesn't compete against the World Cup final. No comparison at all, the World cup has the highest ratings.
You do know about the World League, the league the NFL made to bring NFL support from outside the US? It has failed in the US and in europe.
P.S. Nice figures, however do you know what the figures of soccer are in Europe? Look into it, you may be surprised in your findings.

While the NFL is more popular here and FIFA more popular around the globe, both sports have merit. I am curious what the reason is that you mention when you say "This 'soccer' sport is not popular in US for a reason." What is the reason?
Neither game is superior to the other, but American's tend to prefer Football over Soccer.
By the way, I don't think that people from other countries are idiots when they confuse the two. "Futbol" is panish for Soccer. Soccer is acutally a game of ball played with the foot. A simple misunderstanding doesn't qualify people as idiots in my book. Bigotry and senseless tirades might....

Football (not soccer) is a truly great sport. However soccer (also football) is the most popular sport worldwide, and was invented first. So technically speaking, Football (NFL) should have to change it's name.
Don't get me wrong I like football (NFL) alot better then soccer. But first come first serve. Also Football (soccer) In other countries is worth more then football (NFL) in this country.

I agree with you TOTALLY. They have a category called football(soccer) as opposed to Football(American) I wish these people would get the right category. It isn't that hard to figure out. On top of that these World Cup questions really get me. Come on HOW do you get that Football(American) would mean the type with a little round ball. That just sounds like being too lazy to read the full title of the category.

You know, who really cares? You're as bad as those supercilious Limeys who come on here and denounce American Football as "not the real football." Here we call it "football." In Canada, they have twelve men on the field, no fourth downs, and they call it "football." In Australia, they call some other variant of rugby "football." And, throughout the rest of the world, they call soccer "football."
I'm just tired of this subject coming up. Different strokes for different folks. So why don't you just have a nice warm cup of STFU?

The NFL is much larger than soccer in the US but If you were to tally up the worth of FIFA v. NFL world wide FIFA would come up on top.

i apologize to anyone from a foreign country who reads these stupid responses, personally i like american football more but its stupid to boast that "our" football is the best just because we like it the most, take a look at Europe where their "football" dominates, the rest of the world as well
