Is he an idiot? he said he wants to humilliate Mexico. I mean what kind of player speaks like that prior to a World Cup?? That kind of comments spoil the nice spirit of this kind of competitions. The basis is always to respect each other.

And you think Mexico respects the US?

Look. If there is a team the US would love to beat everytime they played is Mexico. Mexico is the biggest rival of the US.

If he just said that; prior to the World Cup, that is really out of character for Donvan. They do not play each other and chances are they won't meet during the World Cup.

No matter what, this does not take the spirit away from the competitions.

He is definitely an idiot but not for wanting to humiliate Mexico but for assuming that the US (and Mexico) will reach the semi finals. If you check the tournament schedule you'll see that is the only way Mexico and the US will face each other. Maybe he is planning to visit the Mexican team hotel and stick his tongue out to them....who knows...what a delusional jerk!

Maybe if Luis Hernandez didn't threaten to find and kill Donovan's mother after the 2002 2nd round match (USA won 2-0), he (Donovan) would have a different attitude towards them. The mexican team didn't even shake hands after that match, they just ran off the field. How's that for the nice spirit of competition?
