I woke up with a painful bug bite on my ankle- it was moderately large in size (about the size of a quarter) when I woke up, but it has gone down in size (about size of a pencil eraser tip), but it still hurts and itches.
I think it might have been a spider, but I am not sure.
By the way, I live in Northern Ohio, so nothing really exotic could have goten to me.

You're probably right about it being a spider bite.

Keep an eye on it. If it starts swelling again or getting red and splotchy around the site go see a doctor immediately.

If it starts getting "hot" to the touch you can put some ice on it.

It may not have been anything very serious just something that you are allergic to. What might help with itching and pain is to get a wash cloth and put it in hot water and then put baking soda on it and lay it across your bite. I use to do that and it really helps.

is there any marks on the swelling? is there any type of pus, in the area? or does it have like a watery blister looking?
Could be a spider or mosquito.

I say spider, and interestingly you describe the same bites my girlfriend had yesterday and we're just north of you in Michigan.
