I have seen documented photographs of children born with tails. I know it is a rare occurance in the world. However, AFAIK, the tails are removed when discovered. Are there any people alive today with tails that weren't surgically removed?

There are, but I don't have one.

Lemme find some info for you on it...

"Human tails
Human embryos have a tail that measures about one-sixth of the size of the embryo itself. As the embryo develops into a fetus, the tail is absorbed by the growing body. Infrequently, a child is born with a "soft tail", which contains no vertebrae, but only blood vessels, muscles, and nerves. Modern procedures allow doctors to eliminate the tail at delivery. The longest human tail on record belonged to a twelve-year-old boy living in what was then French Indochina, which measured nine inches (229 mm).[1]"

Here's a great site about it!!!

Its not a tail. It is an extension of the tailbone. Usually if found in time , it is removed at birth. There is a reported case of a boy in india who has a "tail". They think of him as the second coming because of it. I do know of cases where it was found well into adulthood. Some people just thought it was a bump.
