Yes there is. The heavier the ball the better pin action. It will hit and carry the pins and give better action and more strikes. But you need to go with a weight you are comfortable with for your body. If it is to light it will carry to quick and miss the head pin or go in the gutter. If it is to heavy it will not carry to the head pin and you will end up with splits. Your pro-shop at the bowling alley will guide you to the proper ball weight . Good luck.

Jeez....sorry you got so many smarta$$ answers. People are unbelievable sometimes.
So, to answer your question, YES! there is a big difference in those different weights. Lonestarramble has it right on the money. The heavier the ball, the more pin action you're going to get. I throw a 15 lb. Beast (I know, I'm outdated, but I love that ball!) and a 14 lb Riot Zone. The Beast gets WAY better pin action even though the core of the Zone is designed better to hit the pins with great force.
But, the biggest thing is go with what's comfortable to you. I am not joking, but I can tell the difference in that single pound. My arm is a lot more sore when I've been throwing the 15lber all day!!! Amazing what one pound can do!!

Between a 14 lb ball and a 15 lb ball, there is one pound of difference in weight. Between a 14 lb ball and a 16 lb ball, there is 2 pounds of difference. Between a 15 lb ball and a 16 lb ball, there is one pound of difference.
No, that's not really a distinct difference in weight. As far as pin action, I can't tell. I miss all the pins no matter what ball I throw. Does it count though if I hit pins in the other lane?

Your question deals with momentum. If thrown at the same speed, the heavier ball will hit the pins harder, thus knocking them further. As a rule, though, the lighter ball can be thrown harder--but would also have a greater angle of deflection from the impact.

This is Physics 101....
Mass, speed, and the varying angles of trajectory, combined with spin and oil on the surface on the lane can all have a distinct difference in pin action...

the heavyer the ball the more force it has or picks up going down the lane witch in turn hits the pins harder witch makes them fall with more force and more of them fall :)

there isn't a distinct difference it's just how lighter the ball is and how easier it is for you to throw it.
