If they are not trustworthy enough, and you don't look at them as true friends, then you should not tell them any of your secrets.
Even if they get mad at you! Because a true friend will respect you and not tell the world your secrets! Do they spread around what their other friends tell them? Is that the reason why you are thinking that they will do the same to you? What you should do to find out if they are your true friends or not and will keep what you tell them in confidence, is to make up a story (that will not cause harm to anyone)! And if the bogus secret gets spread around then you will know the answer!

Trust is a two way thing. Sometimes you find yourself in a friendship where one friend shares everything about her life ,her relationships etc and the other is simply the listener. The one who shares a lot wil most probably share anything you tell her with anyone else, but the listener is someone you can trust. You dont have to tell them EVERYTHING..just tidbits. Its better to have 1 or 2 very good pals than a million fake friends.

Well if you know you can't trust them, then it's gonna be hard to start trusting them. Find some people that you know you can trust. They shouldn't be getting mad at you just because you won't tell them your business. It sounds like these people aren't your friends if they tell all of your secrets. Secrets are meant to be to yourself, and anyone else you trust to tell. If you can't trust them, they will just have to be cool with the fact that they aren't going to know your secrets. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!

You are smart not to trust those people. If they were your true friend, then they would not act that way. They are the first ones to spread your stuff around.

If you cannot trust them, they are not your friends really. They are mere acquaintances. You owe absolutely no obligation to share your secrets. Protect your interests. Trust is built overtime. Share your secrets only and only when you are absolutely sure that they would keep them.

One way to find out if you can trust ur new friend is to tell them something and see if it comes back to you in the form of gossip

You could always make up something small and tell them just to see if they actually told anyone and if it comes back to you.. If it does, then you can prove it to them that's why and give them the reason why.
