Please, civilized, rational discourse only.
Liberals have been ignoring all the great progress we have made in Iraq and Afghanistan. Constitutions have been drafted. Elections have been held. Their own military forces are steadily taking over the responsibility of policing and defending their own nations.
Read the following letter from Al-Zarkawi. He says the U.S. is beating the crap out of his terrorist group, and that Al-Qaeda is being suffocated. Al-Zarkawi himself says that the U.S. can only lose the battle in Iraq by listening to the unrelenting pessism of the liberal press. Our commanders, AND Al-Qaeda say the U.S. can't lose militarily. We can only lose in the press (whereby popular support evaporate).

Has this changed anyone's minds? If Al-Zarkawi's crystal clear admission that they are losing is not enough, what is?

I really hoped for more insightful responses. I'm very disappointed.
Look, my point is simple: we can only lose this war through lack of public support. Our military handled Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, and the Japanese Empire ALL AT ONCE. Why do you let the biased liberal medial brainwash you into thinking we losing this war? The book "Strategery" relates a letter from Al-Zarkawi to Al-Zahiri, his commander. In it, he says that the only way to win this war is to convince the stupid, gullible American public that they can't win. He very clearly admits they're (figuratively) being beaten black and blue by the coalition forces.
So, as my last attempt.... will any of the liberals out there explain why you willingly fall into a trap that has already been exposed? People like Al-Zarkawi are calling you people "useful idiots" (as Lenin did). Why do you insist on snatching defeat from the jaws of victory?

Sorry to break it to you, but you're not going to get the answer that you want from the "I hate Bush" crowd here, hon. They are completely brainwashed by the Mainstream Media. Even the death of Al-Zarqawi means nothing to them b/c, clearly, it's all about Osama bin-Laden.

I'm a Liberal.
1st. I'd like to say "Thank God for the New York Times" !
2nd. I did not see the part where Zarkawi says "..the U.S. can only lose the battle...by listening to..the liberal press."
(I'm not saying you made that up, but.. please point that part out)
3rd. I support our troops (like 98% of Americans) so I want them to win and come home.
4th "changed my mind" - what do You think was on my mind ?
5th Nothing is "crystal clear" in war ! Wish it was. Zarkawi might have been trying to get more outside support by painting a bleak picture. The fact that he is now dead gives that idea some credibility.
and last.. I really hope Iraq works out okay for all our sakes.

1. al-Zarqawi has been "killed" about 12 times in the last two years, let's hope this time it's for real.
2. It took the "most powerful military in the world" 3 years, 90 billion dollars, 2500 dead soldiers, 30000 dead/harmed innocent civilians, and countless troop scandals to get him. BUT, the terrorists are not defeated, only a "leader" of the many was killed. Yes, it's progress, but hardly anything to be cheering like terrorism has been erradicated or as if Iraq is now free.

It's great progress from a couple years ago, but where are we from 5 years ago? 5 years ago no one had heard of al-Zarqawi. The insurgency didn't exist. The Iraq War brought al-Qaeda to Iraq. How exactly is that progress?

Whats your point? I don't know what you want us "liberals" to change our mind from. . .
Just because we are winning doesn't make it right for us to go to war with Iraq a few years ago. . . .sure this is the "fruit" of our mistake. . .all clouds have silver linnings kinda thing. . . just because I rob a store and get away with it and now the store owner gets 50 thousand dollars in inusurance because of it doesn't mean me robbing a store was right . . . .
If I knew your question i could better answer it

I also notice that when they told of the death of Al-Zarkawl in Iraq, the people were not mourning the death of a hero but were cheering the U.S. troops for removing this Vernon from their country. It didn't sound like they wanted us out of Iraq.

Dude, read your own letter. It's an exact duplicate of what the North Vietnamese were saying 35 years ago. And you know what? We left Vietnam, and the world didn't end. And it was the correct thing to do.

I didn't say we were losing, I said we weren't winning anything.
Fighting people with no purpose isn't really a good thing in my eyes. In fact, aren't we more vulnerable to terrorism if we have troops so spread out over the world?

Umm, dude, that website link you gave is from a very direct Mossad/Israeli contractor. It's government BS in the form of a news piece. There's already several cases in the courts of government contractors producing real-looking news pieces and getting them played on local news, this is the website version. Please question the motive and source before posting any "exclusive" news item.
This is straight up Israeli propoganda, pure and simple, ignore it.

Amazing... I really think liberals are living in a parallel universe. They can't simply admit that death of this evil man is a good thing, a great victory.
