The previous Prince of Wales was his great uncle David who became King Edward VIII for a short time in 1936.
The title Prince of Wales is meaningless as they never have anything to do with Wales, they don't even live there.
Most of the holders of this title have had pretty weak characters.

Charles IS the Prince of Wales. British monarchs have traditionally always dubbed the heir to the throne as the prince or princess of Wales. It really doesn't have anything to do with the country.
The last Prince of Wales was the current prince's great-uncle Edward. He became Edward VIII, but abdicated in the 1930s to marry a divorced American woman. (Big scandal at the time.) Queen Elizabeth's father then became king and she became Princess of Wales until her father died and she became queen.

Prince Charles is not the Prince of Wales. Diana was from Wales so SHE was Princess of Wales. Charles is next in line for the throne of England.

Edward VIII was the last Prince of Wales. He was also the man who abdicated his throne for love,putting his brother,The Duke of York(George VI),who was Charles' grandfather, on the throne.

I remember when they use to call me the prince of Wales but i was not for Wales they called me that for other reasons.

David....who became King Edward VIII in January 1936. He abdicated in December 1936. For the rest of his life, he was known as the Duke of Windsor.
