Horses eat primarily forages. Forages are grasses and legumes. Remember that horses are herbivores meaning they do not eat meat. The digestive tract of the horse is inefficient. They require more nutrients than other animals of similar size. there are many books that can help you. I would suggest discussing any questions you have with your local extension agent. I don't know where you live, but many Universities also have animal science departments that can point you in the right direction. Most 4H chapters can help you out as well.

Horses eat a wide variety of feed, examples of grains are barley, oats, bran, and sweet feed. Examples of hay are timothy, grass or alfalfa hay. A lot of horses get trace or mineralized salt, depending on their activity level.

They eat hay, but alfalfa is a little bit better.
They need salt blocks.
Grain, oats, barley, and lots of different things like that.
The also can have linseed, but when you give it to them you have to be careful because if you do it wrong it's poisonous.
