Forbidden items generally include firearms, explosives, firecrackers or anything flammable such as lighters, etc. and also anything sharp that can be used for stabbing such as knives, swiss knives, even metal nail files. Anything other than these, you can take with you in the cabin.

At the TSA site, they have a downloadable brochure of what can be checked and what can be in carry on. You cannot carry on lighters, matches, or metal knives of any size. You can carry on fingernail clippers, small plastic scissors, and a corkscrew.

No lighters, fireworks, the check fruits, knives, that kinda stuff. You can put it in the main luggage, but not a carry on.

You can take - a small bag, clothes, guitar, books, anything that is not harmful and does not hurt anyone (e.g. weapons)...
