I have sworn to defend the constitution of the United States, against all enemies .

I hope that I would be brave enough, if it came to that, or to defend a family member.

Giving your life - OK - Thats your time and energy and other like matters. So for you I would give time to help a good cause, For others to help them with making things right. For my govt I will try to vote. For children I will help young mothers and father be better parents. For the poor I would let them work a day for me. For the old I would just take time to talk to them. I could go on but you get the point. We give our life to others to put value in ours.

I would give my life for the soldiers in my squad, my enemies if it were justifiable, my family strangers and it's not something to think about. It would be worth it.

I would give my life to defend freedom. Nazis, Islamist Fundamentalists, and dictators are all antithetic to freedom. So are collectivist nicompoops and Marxists, come to think of it.

Personally, I think it is a lot harder to live your life for your ideals. Rarely is someone required to lose their life for their ideals. Of course there are exceptions, but there are never exceptions to how you live your life. Yet, many of us fail to stand firm in the face of opposition to our ideals.

I would give my life to defend the country I love from enemy attack. I would give my life defending the people I love from attack.

I would not give my life to impose my beliefs on another.
