Your body is most likely to get more uti's when you are pregnant, because of the babys developement and having to use the restroom so much. Call your doctor and they will most likely call you out macrobid, this is an antibiotic that is used especially for uti's in pregnant women and they will also give you a pill that numbs your ut. It does turn your urine bright orange but it is much safer than the over the counter medicine. I would definately not take the uristat my doctor informed me it was not the safest medicine while pregnant. Once you do get the medicine the numming pill kicks in right away until then srink lots f water or any juice with cranberries in it. I definately would not mess around with these in some cases they can get really bad and could lead toother infections which could possibly lead to very early labor.

To start, UTI stands for "Urinary Tract Infection." It's when you have a really hard time peeing and you constantly feel like you have to go even though you can't. It usually begins because of bacteria in the urinary tract, either from sex, vaginal infections, or anything else. I've had 3 just in the past year, they are soooo annoying and uncomfortable. And yes, men can get them too!
But anyway, the ONLY thing that will get rid of a UTI is an antibiotic, but since you're pregnant, be very careful what medication you get. A medicine like Cipro for example can be very dangerous for the baby (it's also very dangerous for anyone under 18). I took Levaquin which worked well, but ask your doctor first.
To prevent a UTI, always pee after having sex, always wipe from front to back after using the restroom, etc. If you already have one, drink lots of cranberry juice. I know it's kinda gross, but you need the acids to sit in the bladder and kill off the infection as much as possible, especially before you go to bed, drink a cup or two. You can also take AZO Standard, which will help relieve the pressure and the feeling like you need to go. Only downside, it turns the urine orange and it's kinda weird.
Hopefully that answered your question and anyone else's! :-)

All of the above answers are correct! However I wanted to warn you that if you are having more pain than you remember you should call your doc ASAP! It is possible that you went from a simple UTI to a bad bladder infection which can then affect your kidneys. I recently had my first infection as far as I know and it was worse than labor!!! I started off with just some slight pain when I went to the bathroom that morning and through out the day it progressed into severe pain along with passing small amounts of blood. The next day was no better and I started to pass more blood but our insurance didn't take affect until after the weekend (This all started on Friday) not to mention my doctor wasn't in his office till Monday. Make a long story short I peed blood for 5 days before I was finally able to get into our doctor and by then he said that it had gone into such a bad bladder infection that my body created a blood clot in the urethra which was not allowing me to urinate completely (which is what caused the CONSTANT feeling that I needed to go to the bathroom. ) which only made the infection in my bladder expand and grow. He had to put me on some heavy antibiotics and told me if I got any worse at all I had to go to the ER because that would mean that it either went to my Kidneys or else I could become completely blocked by the clot.
Moral of my long post...call your doctor so that he can get you in and put you on an antibiotic along with some meds to reduce the spasms. Don't try and be a tough girl and wait it out!!! I learned the hard way!!!

I think there is a risk with almost any medication you take, but usually its minimal. For liability purposes, they have to list anything and everything. If you are feeling unsure about it, research a little on the internet first to see how common it is. If it was your ob that prescribed, then I'd feel more confident as they deal more with pregnancy interactions than your general practicioner. If it was the GP, I'd call and ask the nurse at your ob and get her opinion. And as for having the UTI -- I feel your pain! I'm 14 weeks pregnant and have one as well! I'm allergic to penisulin, so they had to give me something else though. Not sure if thats what they would have prescribed or not.

I don't know that it really has anything to do with your pregnancy. You probably just have a whopper of a UTI. they vary in how bad they are. I've had minor ones and I've had ones where I bawl my eyes out b/c of the pain. if you haven't already, ask your doctor if you can take Azo Standard when you're pregnant. it will really cut down the pain associated with spasms you get when you urinate.

because when your pregnant, since the uterus is behind the bladder, the fetus inside the uterus, compresses the bladder thus it makes that area feel irritated and you feel pain. especially if you're 6-8 months pregnant. as the baby grows, the bladder is further compressed. check with your doctor. =)
in addition, the urinary meatus, or where your pee comes out, is surrounded by glands that become more active during pregnancy. if these secretions are not cleansed, this could lead to further infection. DON'T TAKE ANY OVER THE COUNTER DRUG OR ANY DRUG AT ALL UNLESS IT IS PRESCRIBED BY YOUR DOCTOR.=) let's keep the baby free from abnormalities.=)

most of the time it is because your body is more sensitive to little changes, just like how you can become more moody and irritable while you are pregnant. sometimes the infection might be worse than what you had before, which causes more pain. other times it is dependant on where your baby is positioned during the infection which will cause you pain.

Their different when you become an adult. Take an over the counter pain reliever especially for unrinary tract pain. Their little orange pills that will go through your system and dye your urine bright orange. Just until the antibiotic kicks in.
