Some gossip: King George VI's wife (Queen Mother Elizabeth) partly blamed King Edward VIII for his early death. Unlike Edward VIII, George VI was not raised to be king, and was not as well-equipped to handle the stresses of the throne.

In 1936 George VI was made King of Great Britain after the abdication of his brother Edward VIII. (Edward abdicated in order to marry a commoner who had been divorced) Created Duke of York in 1920 , he married in 1923 Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (1900- 2005 or 2006) who was the present Queen's Mum. They had two daughters Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret.
George VI died in 1952 and Elizabeth II became Queen of Great Britain.
