Call today and see if you can get an ultrasound done when you go in on Monday, otherwise see if they can get you in for one soon. If they say for some reason they won't do it, keep looking until you find a doctor that will. Your peace of mind is pretty important at this point.

Yes you have every right to demand a blood test or an ultrasound - after all it is your body and your baby. I can't believe that your previous practitioner refused to give you a blood test. That is ridiculous! I am glad that you have a found a different doctor who will treat you right and give you the best possible care. It is hard enough to be pregnant, I just don't understand insensitive doctors. Anyway, call the office again and tell them what it is that you want to be done - ultrasounds have to be scheduled, and you probably know that already, so if you don't get an ultrasound on your upcoming visit, make sure you let them know you want one at least after that visit, so they can prepare for it. At 5 weeks they may not see much, but if it gives you peace of mind, then go for it.
Goodluck with your pregnancy, and I hope everything goes well with you and your baby.

I know exactly how you are feeling. When I first found out I was pregnant I thought that I was having a miscarriage. So, my Dr. took my blood over a series of two days to see if my HCG levels were rising AND she ordered an ultra sound. I would have only been 5 weeks pregnant at the time of the first ultrasound. It is true that it is hard to see anything that early, but what they were looking for was a sac of fluid called the "Yolk Sac." I couldn't see anything on the untra sound (and they might have to do it vaginally), but a trained eye will know what they are looking for. I would first ask them to take blood and check your HCG levels first. If they are doubling like they should I probably wouldn't bother with the ultrasound (or the expense). I don't think Drs. like to give an ultrasound unless it is necessary because they don't want to add any type of risk that might be associated with it. Of course if you insist, I think you Dr. should respect your wishes. I think he/she would understand considering your first experience. Good Luck, and I hope this helps.

Your first appointment is just going to be paperwork and medical history. You'll have an ultrasound at the following appointmen. I miscarried during my first pregnancy and I was 11 almost 12 weeks. I know how hard it is and scary it becomes when you get pregnant again but the said thing is, there isn't much they can do to stop a miscarriage. Have faith. I may have had to go through the horrible heartbreak of losing my first child but I am now the VERY proud mother of a beautiful 13 month old son and I am pregnant again. Miscarriage is very common. My grandmother had 3 miscarriages, then 3 children and another miscarriage. One of my cousins had a miscarriage prior to having her 3 children. Her sister miscarried twins and now has a healthy 3 year old. Try to relax (I know how hard it is, I had nightmares EVERY night of my trimester with my son of miscarrying again) and have faith that you will be holding a healthy, beautiful baby in just 8 more months.

At 5 weeks you won't see a whole lot. I understand that this pregnancy has you worried that the past will repeat, but what you need to do is reduce your stress level. Ask the doctor to do a blood test again, and then try to follow up with a sonogram around 10-12 weeks. I know that it seems like a long time from now, but if you take care of yourself and reduce your stress those are the best things that you can do.

I think you should absolutely ask for an ultrasound, and express your concerns about why. At the fifth week you won't see much, it will probably look like a little bean, but at least you'll know it's still there! If a doctor ever refuses your requests without a good explanation as to why, you should look for another doctor. Best of luck to you!

My friend had an ultrasound done at her first appointment just because it is ruitine. I would definatly ask for one since you did miscarry before. and if they dont let you get one, switch doctors. It is ridiculous that they refues to give you a blood test since they mandatory do one to make sure that you are pregnant and to check your levels. I would call another OB and see what they say for a second opinion if they "refuse" to give an ultrasound.

I would call them and express your concerns. I had an ultrasound at my first appt to confirm the due date. Although i had to have a cervical sonogram because the baby was so small at that point (Mine was March 20th). Tell them your worries and ask them to please schedule one for you on the 12th. I don't see any reason they should refuse. If they do see about getting a midwife I have found they are more flexible to what the mother wants.

you can definately ask... I'm going to guess that the answer will probably be no... I don't imagine there will be much to see that early. :( I had two miscarriages and then I finally got one to stick I have a little girl who is 6 weeks old now...
I suggest you eat a healthy diet excersize moderately (if you don't excersize don't start doing so without consulting your doctor) don't take any medication that your doctor doesn't approve. Start prenatal vitamins as soon as you can and try not to stress. and of course avoid drugs alcohol tabacco and rough sex ;)
good luck honey.

well i don't think that an ultrasound will help i know what your going through the same thing happen to me the fact is they are barley going to be able to see the baby yet and they can't even see the heart beat until you are 8 weeks can't hear it until 12weeks so just stay calm don't do anything stressful and keep a positive mind and i think you and the baby will be ok
