These are the US Census statistics for 2003 regarding average family households.

http://www.census.gov/Press-Release/www/releases/archives/income_wealth/002484.html

A household with combined income of 100k per year would not necessarily be considered wealthy on net income alone but depending on asset management and ownership they could be.
While many, if not most Americans, would consider themselves as 'wealthy' with a combined net income of 100k per year this is not realistic in itself without also owning a very stable and substantial financial portfolio as 100k per year in combined income alone would not generate long term future benefits unless managed and invested wisely.

Wealth is in the eyes of the beholder. If you agree with the Liberals who state tax breaks are for only the rich, then you have a family income of 60K or more.

Statistically you could look at the mean or the median to determine where you are in relation to others. But reality is wealth is a state of mind. To me wealth is the ability to live comfortably. In my neighborhood the minimum home is valued at 1.2M but many of the homes have no furniture. They have an asset but no wealth. My other home (I live in Miami and have a residence in Minneapolis) is in an area of 500K houses BUT all of my neighbors have moderate cars (SUVs) and have well furnished homes. Who is wealthier?

The Government wants you to believe in the 50,000. Surveys when done give half the picture (example-unemployment-it does not include-those who have used their benefits and still not working-or those who didn't qualify-if you sick and not looking you don't-and many others)There are many example of half truths. The true facts are distorted. If you look on other boards-Min wage-SS-Average wage it would seem most (majority) make 30,000 or less.
