The bill that was introduced would have amended the Constitution to state that marriage is between a man and woman. It would not have become law immediately, if it had passed it would have to be ratified and voted on by each state before the Constitution would be amended. All this piece of legislation would have done is put the decision back in the hands of the states. Instead, we will have judges deciding law. If you are an unamerican god-hater I pity you, but I think you are just a very confused young liberal. That's okay but educate yourself we were all there once. As far as President Bushes poll rating, it will come up even more as the numbers were skewed, he's never been as low as the media and some liberals would like us to believe.

Actually Bush ran for office with this as one of his Platforms.....I'm just surprised he waited this long to try and get a bill passed......I dont think your an unamerican god-hater for posing the question this way......But again this was one his platforms during election......Personally I believe this should be put to a vote by the people at state level......But look what happened in MA.....the People voted against gay marriage and a Judge overturned that Vote....If Judges are going to take the decicions out of the Peoples hands.....Then I dont have a problem with the Pres trying to take the decicions out of Judges hands.....Just doesnt seem right to me that your vote and mine will mean nothing because a judge can decide differently

What I find more interesting than the fact that it failed is the fact that after it failed Bush's poll numbers climbed from 27% approval to 30% approval. Does this mean that people like him better when he fails to deliver on his promises? Let's wait and see. I forsee a lot more failures in the future.
I agree with a lot of what was said before me. Massachusetts, where this all started, has very strict anti-discrimination laws. Yes, a judge overturned the will of the people, but a judge's responsibility at the state level is to interpret laws based on the state Constitution, not to interpret laws based on the votes of the people.
All people are born free and equal and have certain natural, essential and unalienable rights; among which may be reckoned the right of enjoying and defending their lives and liberties; that of acquiring, possessing and protecting property; in fine, that of seeking and obtaining their safety and happiness.
For more on the cases involved, see link 2 .
The will of the people is enforced (in theory, anyway)through their elected representatives. Constitutional legality is enforced by judges.
In both cases, state and federal, the correct, based on Constitutional law, decision was made.
What I don't understand about a lot of the "anti-Christian" remarks I see on this subject is many forget what the most important thing Jesus told us to do was. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". How many would be willing to forfeit that which they wish to deny another?

The homosexual marriage ban is not about bigotry, but about preventing 5 men in black dresses (judges) from usurping the peoples' power to decide this. The people need to vote on this, not have it crammed down their throats by judicial tyrants. Or do you support tyranny if it's for your own cause?
No, you're not an unAmerican God-hater. You're mean-spirited and show a lot of hate and contempt for your political opponents (how tolerant!). Plus you show a typical Democrat shallowness in understanding news and events.

All their energy will be focused on the Zarquawi Kill and how the insurgency is defeated, they will state "mission accomplished" ONCE AGAIN but the bloodshed will continue. You are a patriot and a good citizen for questioning what the current criminal leadership is doing to our great country, you along with many other liberals and free-thinkers would make our "founding fathers" proud as they were the same way in regard to English rule at the time.

Your guess is as good as mine. They're probably sitting around pulling suggestions out of a hat. The simple fact is that there aren't enough heavy-hitting Bush Pioneers left on the planet to help overcome their Iraq mistakes, their Katrina incompetence, and their miserable record of failure on everything from homeland security to health care to the environment.
BTW, a quote for you:
Dissent is the highest form of patriotism - Howard Zinn

Now they'll push for a ban to abortion, which they won't win--AGAIN. Xtians are just trying to divert attention from the real issues, but we're not as dumb as they are.
In the meantime, they'll try to take us back to the Middle Ages with their mythology called "bible". The GOP will in their own time cater to corrupt CEOs as usual.
