They cannot accept that people are simple creatures who do things for simple, straight-forward reasons. Instead of doing some critical thinking and accepting that the simplest answer is usually the most likely, they let their minds wander and make up fantastic lies to account for every detail of an incident.

One man could not have killed JFK.
Muslims can't just hate and kill innocent people.

OOH NOOOO

The US government HAD to be behind it all.

Partly it's run-of-the-mill paranoia; partly it's because genuine conspiracies do get exposed every once in a while, and if things like we sometimes see on the news are going on, you have to wonder what the conspiracies are that they don't catch; and partly it's because we're such a big and diverse nation that it's hard to imagine that people really do think the things that some people do think, in other places.

many are Urban legends we create to amuse ourselves or to teach meaningful lessons about people and society. Some people may take it too far, though they may not think so. It has to do with boundaries. If you don't watch your mind and believe in a conspiracy that someone is out to get you, or a UFO is out to town with your name on it to become a human experiament , you will lose your mind. Balance is the key. Know when to draw rthe line.
