I just got back from DR last Wednesday! Went to Boca Chica.
No you don't need a passport if you are a US citizen. When you get to DR, look for the tourist card booth and give the lady 10 bucks. (It's located next to the currency exchange booth if flying into Santo Domingo).

Then, make sure you filled out the blue customs card (have your birth certificate and flight numbers handy) for customs.

If you drink alcohol you may bring down two bottles. Certain brands are not available in DR and vice versa so bring your favorite to make sure you'll have it.

When you return again, complete the blue card again. Make sure you print CLEARLY. Those customs guys in MIAMI can be a**holes.
Say hi to the police dogs :)

Have fun!

Santo Domingo could be the capital of the Dominican Republic and the oldest European town in the Americas and if you wish to see among the UNESCO World Heritage List then, this hotelbye could be the place. Santo Domingo is really a collage of cultures and neighborhoods. It's where in actuality the seems of life, domino parts smacked on platforms, backfiring mufflers and horns from disorderly traffic. In the heart of the city could be the Zona Colonial, wherever you will find one of many oldest churches and the oldest surviving European. Also, in the Zona Colonial you will see Gazcue, one of many city's oldest neighborhoods, filled with old Victorian houses and tree-lined streets.

The passport requirements for travel to the Caribbean are changing. Make sure you read all the requirements before you go...
The State Dept. website will keep you updated. I would recommend getting a passport. It's much easier to use and you have more security as far as getting a replacement if it gets lost or stolen vs. using your birth certificate.

examine consisting of your shuttle agent. We always shuttle with a passport, in my opinion i imagine it really is a good concept to have one, and in straightforward words a controversy of time earlier each and everyone will require a passport to shuttle. even with the undeniable fact that, Canadians at this element are in straightforward words required to have photo I.D. and start certificate if flying direct from Canada. interior the case of married women individuals, it really is a good concept to take alongside your marriage certificate, as your start certificate and photo identity gained't have the same surname. I quite have not in any respect in my opinion heard of all people being requested for the marriage certificate, even with the undeniable fact that it does no longer harm to take it alongside in basic terms in case. you're also required to purchase a vacationer card. if you're paying for an all-inclusive kit by a excursion operator, it truly is protected interior the fee and could be presented to you both consisting of your tickets, or on the airport earlier you go away. or you are able to purchase a vacationer card for $10.00 U.S. once you arrive on the airport interior the Dominican Republic.

I'm not sure where you are traveling from but if you are a US citizen all you need is a birth certificate and a drivers license. This will change in January of 2008.
