Where in the U.S. can I buy a SMART car?

They are thinking of letting the fortwo coupe into the US. In fact there are about 200 in California right now waiting to be released. Daimler Chrysler is trying to work with the US standards such as EPA for vehicles. It will be a while.

The car is not DOT certified so if you can find one it will be hard to register. DaimlerChrysler decided not to bring the car in as it was going to be costly. Good luck. Try Canada.

You can't. They're not certified for sale in the US at present.

If you bought one in Canada, you would not be able to register it in the US. You would be required to export it within one year. Failure to do so would result in its confiscation and destruction.
