Why do the majority of Americans do not carry cash anymore? Everyone uses a credit/debit card for even menial purchases like a soda of McDonalds. Why?

I use cash just to tick off the cashiers. They have a hard time making change, even when the amount shows in front of them. I have given back so much money in the last year alone.

Yea it was replaced by hard plastic. Good question though. I still use cash.I refuse to get a credit card. The way I see it is if I don't have the cash to pay now I don't really need to buy it.Plus the a credit card is too easy. I could get in trouble with a credit card. I have a check cashing card but have never used it.

I don't know I think it is crazy I have an debit card and I never use the thing when I opened my checking account I told them I did not want checks. I put money in the bank and then I go and take it out as I need it! I hate credit cards I think they are a joke. I prefer cash. If my Job didn't direct deposit my money I wouldn't even have a checking account prlly :)

convenience. i always have a credit card. for cash i have to go to a bank or credit union, make a special trip there to get cash. or an ATM even. Which often charges a fee. I pay my credit card online and it doesn't require a special trip anywhere plus gives me the flexibility to not pay it all this month if i am short on cash. cash can get lost and it's gone. cash can get stolen. it's more risky. credit card can get lost or stolen but i just call and cancel it. so i'm not out anything. credit card sends me a list of how i spent my money cash i would have to keep track myself.

It's easier to control through loss prevention. There's also a Biblical theory I have on the subject, but I won't tell you about it here....
