hi there
i have used pc desktop, then mac laptop, then a pc laptop for college. my thoughts:
mac
- look better but more expensive even with student discounts, u can get a free ipod though this summer
- it is difficult to find software. u have to buy them, as opposed to the PC world where many people would just pirate a software from a friend or family.
- great for multimedia, espcially music and pictures. itunes and iphoto are the best out there, and there is no equivalent of iphoto on PC. if u like to create short movies, iMovie is great too.
- great battery life, 4 hours
- will run out of the box , does not require specific knowledge
- u will have trouve sometimes because people would want u to try new software (games or more specialized software) which will probably run only on windows, but u can use BootCamp though to run Windows on your mac laptop.
PC:
- more choices, less expensive
- u need to install lots of things, antivirus, firewalls, u need to cleanup your computer monthly. the software is less stable than windows, less user-friendly. it feels like broken.
- u can play games and every software u can think of.
- lousy battery life for most PC laptops.
i would say that buying a PC is equivalent to buying a GM car and a mac is equivalent to buying a porsche car. a GM car is less expensive, u can take it on all roads, the quality is not great, whereas a porsche car is faster, is more beautiful but it only runs on perfect roads.

Mac is geared more towards graphics and graphic designers or editors of videos. I actually have a Mac and I like it but it's not as good as people make it seem I've had mine for 2 years and i've already replaced the video board. Invest in a good PC NOTa Mac that will go bad 2 years after owning it.

In the early beginning mac. computers use the graphic interface, which was more easier to deal with, more active in publishing works, graphic designs. Now PCs use the same technology and have a wide range of software's for all applications, so we prefer PCs in additional to it's cheap price in compare.

I would recomend looking at what you are already accustomed to. Personaly I will never own a Mac, but I know how difficult it is to re-train your skills going from one platform to another.
Both PC's and Mac's are fairly equal when it comes down to most functions a college student would use, unless you are getting into programing then I would strongly recomend a PC.

Mac is mostly for video and graphics, has its own OS, and it doesn't support most software for PC, so number of compatible applications can be somehow limited. PC is cheaper, additional hardware is easier to find.

Choose pc because there is much, much mor compatibility and choices. Also, there are more ways to update, fix your system. Macs only appear prettier and better, but they really aren't.

this is a hugh dabate mac or pc. mac is a unix file system and wndows id microsoft dos based platform. if you like gaming emails, instant messenger and stuff like that. i would pick a pc. for a mac they use those for imageing and other bs. if you treat a pc right it wont crash. macs will always be on my poop list. if you update the os on them to drasticly. like 9.2 to a mac os x 10.3 then it will feel like you have sludge in your engine. like waling up to your knee's in muk. just go with windows. Dunno maybe linux. one problem. hard to get software for and is is a unix based computer.

Pcs are better because they are easier to work with and have a wider range of programs that you can use on them.
