Because the whole issue starts in doubt, with questions: How did we get here? How did it all get started? Was it planned? No one knows, and no one is more defensive than someone in doubt.

I don't think I have answered a question on here in one sentence so why start now. Lucifer (Satan/Devil) was kicked out of Heaven by God because Lucifer thought he could do a better job than God.
I believe there are many inhabited worlds that never disobeyed God; therefore never sinned. Satan came to earth (a recently created planet) and tempted Eve with the thought that if she ate from the fruit of the tree which God had forbidden, she would be as enlightened as God.
Eve and Adam failed to trust God, ate and had to (along with everyone after them) live their lives as a result as sinners. The story of salvation (Jesus) is God's way of providing a pathway for fallen mankind to get back to God.
To answer your question, the more confused Satan can make people, the greater the likelihood he will lead them to his shared destruction. Thus we have hundreds of denominations, all teaching something a little different.....mostly truth, but enough error to cause the vast majority to be lost. Jesus says that many will come to Him saying that they did things in His name. Jesus said He would have to send them away because they had followed the traditions of man and not the will of His Father. He also said that few would enter Heaven.
No matter what we believe, we should constantly be searching for truth in the Bible and desiring to live closer to Jesus. Jesus also said that just before he returns that Satan would practically deceive the whole world...in fact He says that if it where possible, even the elect (Christians) could be deceived.
I believe the rules are not to place web site addresses on here, so anyone wishing to find a wonderful Christian site with videos that you can watch and learn from in the privacy of your on home, email me and I will send it to you.

Anything that people believe strongly in is bound to be controversial. God (or at least religion) is one of those things.
There are many different belief patterns to choose from and the stronger most people believe, the more they want to assert their opinions - making them more vocal usually.
Generally when you choose to believe something, you're sayinig that every other possible belief about the subject is wrong, or at least inferior, to your choice. (there is very little room for accepting differences of opinion when it comes to religious matters) And, since you can't get everyone to agree with you all the time, people are going to fight about it.
Also, matters of spirituality are considered even more important because the choice you make may affect more than this life. What you choose to believe may help determine your afterlife or level of reincarnation or what happens to your spirit (if your choice believes in those things). Generally, most religions teach things like how you behave in this life will help determine what happens to your spirit after you die. Some people can't help but feel that it is their responsibility to 'help' as many other people as possible to find the 'real' or 'true' path, etc.
Hope this helps :-)
