I got a henna tattoo at an amusement park (Dornery Park), and they were said to work really well and last for up to a month. I was highly disapointed. It was done by a professional, and it still didn't look that great. I paid about $35 for it. The tattoo came out ok, but it looked nothing like a real tattoo. If you get plain black ones, they look kind of real, but any other color looks completely fake. Also, the tattoo started coming off the same day I got it! Henna comes off with just about anything. In fact, a temporary tattoo from the dollar store would have lasted longer! I wouldn't suggest spending your money on the henna. It's not worth it.

Yes, henna does work. I used to use it for my hair and it would turn it into a burgundy color. It's very pretty. Everyone was like, "wow i like your highlights." Of course you cannot dye your hair after you use henna. You will have to wait a little while until most of it leaves your hair. Make sure to watch out after the first few showers because your wet hair will stain your shirt. I suggest you put a towel under your hair if you don't already. If you want to use henna as a tattoo, I can't say if it will look like a real tattoo, but it will usually last a little more than a week. Henna is a very nice thing to use for you hair if you are thinking about it.

of course they work and sometimes they last for much more than a week if the quality of the henna is good. i've tried these colours several times, they're certainly worth the money and they are definitely not bad for the skin. But, of course, that again solely depends on the quality of the henna you use. The best can be said to be found in India where you can cover your hands with henna for about 50 cents.

I have a book on henna tattoos with the history and some tips and stuff. It recommends that you stay away from colored henna, because the chemicals can be damaging for the skin. If I could find the darned book I would put in a quote or something but I havent seen it in a few months :) Stick with the original brown to be safe.

Hi,
I am an Indian where a lot of henna is used. One thing I am certain about is that it does not do any harm on usage to the hair or on the body. I am not too sure about the various color bit as in India the henna used is the natural color which is a tint of reddish/orange. If used as a tatoo - it will remain for about two weeks depending on how long you kept it on when it was applied and saw the instructions clearly for getting the optimum out of it. Henna is supposed to be a coolant and it is claimed that it helps in various ways - keeps you hair dandruff free, keep a cool head and so on. This I am certain about - however - what gets me is the various colors you mentioned. These colors may have adverse effects on both your hair and body. I am not an authority on this issue but am sure about certain facts.

Ok. Henna is NOT under ANY circumstances bad for u. Only Black henna is. It is reeeaaalllllllyyyyyy worth it. Trust me. Im only 11 and I know this stuff. It looks exatly like a normal tattoo. But we do it for religion. It is actually call Henna in Indian and Kina in Turkish (thats me!!) It is fun to do!! They last about a month and I do it a different way. Since I do it for religion, I take it, soak it in water, and put it on my hand or any where. Then, I wrap it around with like a bandana and it dries for the morning. Then, if u want design, get a plastic bag, soak the henna in water, and put it in the plastic bag. It smells really bad. Then push it up to the tip of the bag and cut just a teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnny tiny bit of the point of the bag and start designing. Good luck!!

Be careful with what you buy. As someone who has applied henna to the skin of children and adults, you should avoid henna that advises it provides colors other than those that are natural to henna, which are generally brown or reddish. Black henna should be avoided at all costs!! Hennas that offer colors others than those that are brown or reddish may include hair dye which is bad for the skin. Do some investigating!! Make sure the website looks like it is a legitimate business. Be careful!!

Henna works fine. It's just a reddish tint which will be fine in all hair colors if you aren't expecting more than a tint. It's isn't a dye and won't change your own haircolor other than to add that reddish hue.
If it gets on the skin, it will leave a stain so do rub it off thorougly right away. Other than that, I don't think it can damage the skin unless you happen to be allergic to some ingredient it contains. Do a spot check first....it's always a good idea when trying a new product. Have fun....that's the bottom line of making a change in your appearance.

Beware of "black henna." Some black henna is natural, but some "black henna" is not and contains toxic dies that cause very severe allergic reactions! Do a search for "black henna" on Google for more information.
In general, you get much better results with henna in powder form. There are lots of colors, most in the brown/orange/red ranges. Other colors are probably not real henna and can cause bad reactions. For best results use very hot water and apply within 30 min.

Absolutely...natural henna used in Mendhi tattoos will in fact last for several weeks if done correctly (depending on the body part). I use the pre-mixed Indian or Pakistan imports. There is nothing to worry about unless you got a weak hand and goof up the application...be sure to wipe away all mistakes as fast as you can. One cool thing for me is that by the time the henna has faded from my foot the tan on my foot has deepend and where the henna was I now have a "negative" tattoo.
