I dont think so.
MS Windows require License for the number of Users/Computers that use the software. So i dont think you can have a mobile(USB,CD etc) copy ready to use.atlest not legally.
However there are Linux Distributions that are made for this specific purpose like Damn Small Linux.

Yes you can , but when you take it to another computer it would freak out, You should be using windows PE. It can be booted from a cd or thumb drive and functions like an OS. You can DL precompliled versions or you can make your own. Here's the URL so you can make your own.

Windows PE is made from your XP CD.
Winternals sells this same CD for hundreds.
Now that's the BEST ANSWER !

There is absolutely a way to load Windows XP on a USB thumb drive. Fred Langa, a senior writer at InformationWeek, wrote a step by step manual, "Fred Langa offers a step-by-step and illustrated guide on how to boot XP from an ordinary USB drive."
The link is:

You can create the boot record and then install the OS on the Pendrive. This way you can have the OS on a pendrive. Insert the pendive in to the USB slot before switching on the computer.

This is very possible, but sadly I don't know how to do it.
If you remember watching Unscrewed with Martin Sargent on TechTV, you'll remember them raming a USB disk up a persons anal area and running XP from there.

I don't believe it's possible. Aside from the whole licensing agreement, windows, from my experience is required to install on your C Drive.

honestly, why would you?
i mean if your current operating system on your internal hard drive is windows xp, its kind of pointless to do so
maybe if you were working with windows, and wanted linux but didnt want a dual boot then i would understand..
check if you can on microsoft.com
