Usually if your family knows and likes the person it is easier for them. If you family does not like the person this is one strike against you.
I told my family right after my first encounter because I was so happy and excited to finally understand why I felt so different about dating guys and hating it.

After tellin my family we all started to become very close. Before our relationship was really bad. But now we are all family for real this time. They kind of like hangin out with gay people

It was quite good, but I always felt like I was disconnected from them... because I was hiding something so huge for so long. Its like, your family can't ever really love you if they don't know you. Since coming out, we've just gotten closer, which is nice.

My parents are divorced. My mother didn't care, once she got over the initial shock. My father and I went from distant to estranged. We get together about 4 times a year, his birthday, my birthday, Father's Day, and Christmas.
