Where are you, what are you stuck on?
Have you found a location, a space?
Have you priced equipment, like the chairs people sit in to get their hair done and mirrors and shelves for the beauty store?
I would start with finding a suitable space and renting or buying it.
Then fill it up with the stuff you need (might have to remodel the space first) then hire the staff and open.

I don't have personal experience but I found some handy resources for you. To make it easier, I'll split up the details regarding your retail store and your spa/salon services.

The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore as well. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

Retail Specific:
* Start and Run a Profitable Retail Business by Jim Dion, Ted Topping
* Retail Business Kit for Dummies by Rick Segel
* Specialty Shop Retailing: How to Run Your Own Store Revised by Carol L. Schroeder
* So You Want To Own The Store: Secrets to Running a Successful Retail Operation by Mort Brown

Spa/Salon Specific:
* Spa Business Strategies: A Plan for Success by Janet M. D'Angelo
* SalonOvations' Day Spa Operations (S Business Series) by Erica Miller
* Start Your Own Hair Salon and Day Spa by Eileen Figure Sandlin
* 101 Media and Marketing Tips for Salon Owners, Stylists and Managers by Nanette Miner

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Well, first you have to write a business plan. If you have one of these, you can then apply for a loan (if needed.) A business plan takes about a month to write if you want to be thorough. Here's a sample for a salon type place. http://www.bplans.com/spv/3277/index.cfm?affiliate=pas
Also, if you have business questions, you can ask a SCORE rep at www.score.org
