I guess I've always had this problem to a certain extent, but over my last few periods it seems to be happening more frequently.

When I put a tampon in, I quite often get a shooting pain in my lower abdomen, usually on the right hand side, sometimes on the left. It's a really severe stabbing pain, but it goes away quite quickly.

I've been using tampons for years, and I know how to put them in - I'm always in the same position when I insert them, and I use the lowest absorbancy for my flow etc etc etc. I'd say now, about half the time I get this pain, the other half of the time it's totally fine.

I sometimes get a dull achey pain at the lower right side as well, not related to my periods in any way.......do you think the two things are linked? And why does it sometimes hurt when I put a tampon in?

The pain doesn't last for the whole time I leave the tampon in, it's just when I first put it in I get this stabbing pain for a few minutes. And I really hate using sanitary towels, I feel dirty and disgusting when I use them, and I hate being able to feel the blood coming out of me. If I go to the doctor, will he have to do an internal exam?

THE USE OF TAMPOONS CAN AS YOU ALEADY KNOW CAN BE UNCOMFORTABLE IF YOUR PLACEING THEM IN TO FAR CAN CAUSE PAIN OR YOU MAY NOT BE LUBRICATED ENOUGH TO FOR INSERTION OR YOU COULD HAVE A VAGINAL INFECTION. I WOULD RECOMEND GOING TO SEE A DR. THE TWO CAN BE RELATED BUT IF YOUR HAVEING PAIN/DISCOMFERT OUT SIDE YOUR PERIOD YOU HAVE ONE OF THREE THINGS GOING ON EATHER YOU ARE OBVULATING AND DONT RECOGNIZE IT. OR YOU COULD POSSIBLY HAVE ENDOMETRIOSIS OR A SORT OF TUMER IN THE LINEING OF YOUR CERVIX.EITHER WAY YOU NEED TO GO TO A DR. AND HAVE IT CHECKED.

I'm 43 and have never been able to use them, I have the same problem as you with the shooting pain. I just don't use them, but you sound really worried; I see you are going to the doctor tell him you are terrified of internal examinations and ask to be x-rayed (I did that when I was 15) Most doctors will say OK. But the more you worry the harder it will be.

No one can come on here and tell you what's wrong, they can only second guess.

I think that you need to see a doctor, I don't know what the problem is but the pain could be due to swelling or some kind of blockage, I suggest when you see the doctor get a smear test done at the same time, just to be opn the safe side

I kind of had the same thing and went to the doctor who scheduled me for an ultrasound and it turned out to be groups of little cysts on my ovaries. I would suggested going to your doc. Its nothing I need sugery for or to medicate for now but if it worsens than further treatment will be necessary.

my first tampon of the month is like that. I don't get cramps until I put that first one in! Weird, but I always just thought that it was touching my cervix, thus stimulating it to cramp, which in turn starts my full flow. Just my opinion, though

you really need to go see a doctor about this.
probably not the tampons if you're fine some of the time - may be a cyst
seek medical help

That's a problem- tampons shouldn't hurt at all, especially if you've used them before without pain. You should visit your gynecologist.

Let me see, it hurts my finger when I hit it with a hammer. Oh, I know, maybe a ought to just stop hitting my finger with a hammer. You think it'll stop hurting then.
